I first met Helen in December 2014. I'd been suffering from two or three ailments on and off for over a year. None of them was serious and my GP and specialists had investigated and prescribed medications, which gave marginal benefit. I'd reached the stage where I had become drug-dependent and the quality of my health was just okay. I didn't hold out much hope in consulting Helen, in fact I was quite sceptical. I recall she asked a lot questions and listened intently at the first consultation. After a few more meetings she'd changed my diet (to food I was still happy to eat) and things began to look up. Suffice to say, as if by miracle, five months later I've stopped taking the drugs and feel great. I can't say that Helen will cure any problem but she certainly had a very significant effect on mine and has very much improved the quality of my health.

I initially saw Helen as I had been suffering from Chronic Fatigue for fifteen months. I had been slowly improving but hit a set back with my fitness.Helen researched the condition as there are constant new studies on CFS and was able to identify in great detail, elements I was missing in my diet and lifestyle for some years. I first went to see Helen after being diagnosed with a candida problem and I needed advice about the candida diet which i was clueless about at the time. She was very helpful and understanding and was able to provide me with lots of advice on the foods I had to avoid along with the foods I could eat and she also helped me to understand the problem I had. After the sudden loss of my partner, I suffered from terrible anxiety. I had counselling which helped to a degree but then along came the Covid virus. I was (along with many others) alone with my bereavement and my anxiety increased drastically. I was terribly anxious, fatigued, and my back and kidneys ached constantly. Also, I couldn't think straight, I was losing my hair, my eyesight was affected and I was a jittery mess who was unable to go out alone. I spoke to my doctors who were great and very helpful. They sent me for blood tests, eye tests, heart monitor, however none of which showed any problems.

I had used Helen's dietary advice in the past and her help turned my life around then, and once again talking to her and listening to her, and her understanding of my condition helped me greatly. Helen explained that I was most likely suffering from adrenal fatigue, a condition not generally considered by GPs. Her dietery advice and understanding has helped me from my first session. I am continuing to improve, I can now go out alone and am picking my life up bit by bit. Its been a long hard slog but with Helen's advice and understanding, I can say with confidence I am finally getting there!

After several years of being well and not being bothered by my historical allergies (some of which I had severe responses with hives, swelling of lips, tongue etc), I “suddenly” started to react again. Initially I thought it was tree nuts but then a whole host of other foods triggered responses including bananas, cheese, avocado, wine, and I was beginning to become very anxious about eating anything as it had started to feel like Russian Roulette. After seeing the doctor and being issued with an Epi-pen and antihistamines, I was feeling very down as I knew in my heart drugs were only a sticking plaster rather than addressing the root cause of the problem.

My logic was that if food was triggering the problem, then food would also be the answer rather than drugs which I didn't respond well to and weren't working anyway. I did some research and found Helen. From the first phone call, I knew I was in safe, knowledgeable and professional hands.

She immediately identified some of the potential causes; vitamin D deficiency, an imbalanced immune system as a result and the big culprit, histamine intolerance as opposed to specific food allergies or intolerances. This was a gamechanger for me as otherwise I'd have continued blindly pointing the finger at various individual foods when it fact, it was a whole collection of “high histamine” foods. I hadn't heard of this but immediately it made sense to me and at our first session Helen gave me a framework I could use to start to rebalance my body and aim to reduce my histamine levels to a normal range.

She warned me it was a slow process, and it was at times frustrating. However my regular sessions with Helen over a 6 month period kept me motivated and there wasn't a day when I doubted it wasn't the right thing to do as my reactions gradually started to space out. When I eventually reached my goal of no reaction for four weeks, we celebrated and then changed tack slightly to start to reintroduce foods to work on building and sustain my immunity. I'd given up taking antihistamines three weeks into the new food plan as I knew it wasn't helping and I haven't had any since.

Helen has been my absolute guardian angel this year and I'm indebted to her for returning my life to normality and enabling me to relax and enjoy my food again. I've never felt better and also have a new understanding and knowledge of how to eat well FOR ME ( we are after all, all unique!)

I've recommended Helen to many of my own clients who I now recognise have issues that could undoubtedly be improved by at the very least a nutritional review and urge anyone reading this to do the same. Helen's kindness, knowledge, empathy and professionalism is second to none and I think the service she provides should be available in every GP surgery in the land.
